Hepatobiliary Surgery
Feb 26, 2026Hepatobiliary surgery is a specialized field of surgery concerned with the operative management of disorders involving the liver, gallbladder, and biliary tree, and, in selected cases, the pancreas. It encompasses the diagnosis, surgical treatment, and perioperative care of both benign and malignant hepatobiliary conditions, including cholelithiasis, biliary obstruction, hepatocellular lesions, and biliary tract neoplasms. The primary objective of hepatobiliary surgery is to achieve definitive treatment of the underlying pathology, preserve organ function when possible, and optimize patient outcomes through appropriate surgical intervention, whether by open, laparoscopic, or other advanced minimally invasive approaches.
